Binding energy per nucleon

The binding energy per nucleon is the average energy needed to "break off" just one nucleon from the nucleus.

Binding Energy per nucleon = Binding Energy/ Nucleon Number

Nuclear reactions move the nuclei towards the valley at the bottom of the curve.
